Technical Specifications:
Introduced in March 1987, the Macintosh II was a truly revolutionary computer. It had many features never before seen in Apple’s products or in the products of PC manufactures at the time. It was Apple’s first computer to support 8 bit - 256 color displays with resolutions up to 640x480. This shook the PC market, where a 64 color monitor was a luxury. It also was Apple’s first
computer to support the use of multiple monitors, something that they apply to all their products today. The Mac II had extreme expansion capabilities, including 6 Nubus slots for high speed connections to the variety of cards that could be installed. It was the first modular Mac, giving users the ability to purchase and upgrade internal parts such as RAM, and external parts such as monitors. The Mac II was Apple’s first 32 bit product, running at 16 MHz on a Motorola MC68020 processor. It was sold without a monitor, keyboard or mouse. A system with 1 MB of RAM, an 800K floppy drive and one 40 MB internal SCSI hard drive cost $5,498.
